More and more – they are acting with an assumed sense of immunity – willing to employ the taser, tear gas or worse a firearm – without ever considering alternatives. They say there is “no time to think” whne there is really no effort to think. No attempt NOT to put themselves in that situation. No thought to FOLLOWING THE CONSTITUTION – and its prohibitions on UNREASONABLE SEARCH. They could have actually used pepper spray or Tazed this dog. It did not have to die.
I do not want to think of the extreme emotional distress I would feel and be under if my dog was shot. My dog, my THERAPY ANIMAL, is emphatically bonded to me – I would absolutely freak, the same as if a child of mine was shot if it was done on front of me – perhaps sad – but probably true. Probably a good thing I am a man that normally has a high degree of self control.
We have another controversial dog shooting case. Cathy Luu and her family say that an El Monte police officer shot their 2-year-old female German Shepherd, named Kiki inside their fenced-in front yard while looking for a runaway teenager. What is different about this case is that a home security camera recorded the scene and it contradicted the account of the two officers.
